Author's Review
The HP LaserJet 2100M Laser Printer is an excellent printer to purchase refurbished from a distributor. A predecessor to the HP LaserJet 2200 series of printers, the main feature that distinguishes the 2100 series from the 2200 series of printers is the increase in speed of printing with the 2200 almost twice as fast as the 2100 model.
However, the HP LaserJet 2100M is nothing to sneeze at. It prints 10 pages per minute, and comes with a standard (lay down manual) tray that holds 100 sheets of multi-sized paper, and a 250-sheet standard sized tray 2. This printer has 8 MB of memory as well and is expandable to 40 MB of RAM. Postscript printing is also factory installed on this particular 2100 series printer making it more attractive than the base 2100 model and others.
One of the things that has surprised me about the HP LaserJet 2100 M printer is the fact that it just does not jam. We have used many sizes of media within this printer from card stock, labels, letterhead, and even transparencies, and the printer just refuses to jam.
While these printers can be networked, using a HP Jet Direct card, I really do not believe it is beneficial to do that unless you are short of printers. Because of the fact that these printers only print 10 pages per minute, there may be some backups if you use them in that fashion.
Why Buy Refurbished?
Most of the printers that are coming back to our office now are literally like new. The only reason why they are being returned to us is that the offices that they were in wanted the faster 2200 technology and ordered new printers.
This is why I believe that a refurbished HP LaserJet 2100 M printer would be a fantastic purchase. If the only reason why these printers were traded in was for the speed, which is really not all that bad if you ask me, then the life duration of the printer will surely last for many more years to come.
Small businesses or those who operate on limited budgets should be able to find the HP LaserJet 2100 M at a substantially reduced price as in comparison to the 2200 series, making for a very economical and secure purchase.
Drawbacks to the HP 2100 M Printer
There are not that many drawbacks to the HP 2100 M printer, but I would like to mention a few.
First, is the fact that if you are using non-standard sized media such as card stock that you have to open the back panel of the printer to allow the media to flow out that direction instead of in the top output tray. This causes you to use more desk area than you would if the printer would just function in a normal output feed capability. You could chance the paper/media would come out the regular tray, but if you do that, you will probably get a lot more jams than you would if you just opened the tray out.
Next is the fact that the printer itself does not hold a tremendous amount of paper. It only holds a maximum of 250 sheets of paper and if you have a high output rate of printing, you may want to look at the HP 2100 TN model instead of this one, which has two 250 paper trays of capacity.
Finally, the last drawback is that this printer prints only black and white. Therefore if you want color documentation, you will be out of luck with the HP 2100 M printer. This is very minor though, in my personal opinion, as someone who has a major need for business production than for home use should purchase this printer.
Recommendation
Because HP has such a high standard for printer quality, I believe that you would do well to purchase a HP 2100 M printer refurbished. These printers really put out the documentation in a seamless and efficient manner making them some of the most trouble free printers that we have in our business. The fact that so many of these models are now in the resell market makes it a great buy from a monetary standpoint as well.
Therefore, I highly recommend the purchase of the HP LaserJet 2100 M refurbished printer for small business/ home business needs.
