Taking care of a pet never could be this dull!
Date of Review: Feb 22, 2008
The Bottom Line: I would not recommend this game unless you have a small child who enjoys taking care of a pet a lot.
I play a lot of video games, especially with my daughter. Well, my husband bought my daughter and I each a Nintendo DS for Valentine's Day. I wanted a carrying case for my DS, just because I did not want it to get scratched and ruined. Hamsterz Life was included with this pink case I liked, so I bought it. I paid $29.99 for the case and game.
Hamsterz Life is a pretty simple game. My three year old daughter understands the concept of the game and pretty much do everything. At the beginning of the game you get to pick out your hamster, and choose a name for your pet. This is kind of fun for a child because it is really like you are going to the pet store and they get to choose their own pet. Abby enjoyed it.
When you bring your hamster home, you need to train him as he knows nothing. You need to talk to him and show him love. This is fun for a small child. You can use the microphone built into the Nintendo DS to talk to your hamster. You also need to make sure you are feeding him as well.
There are also seven different mini games that you can play with your hamster to earn items for him. This is the fastest way to earn things for him. Some of the games you can play to earn items are memory, fishing, and an item catcher. Most of these are pretty easy to play, my three year old could do a couple of them.
The unfortunate thing about this game is there is not a lot of things to do. I have seen the game sold alone and it is between $20-$30. Unless you have a child who really enjoys taking care of a pet, there is not a lot of replay value in this game. They will probably not play it after a few times.
I think this game is really cute, but unless you are into this type of series, it is not worth the money.
