Has Midway no respect for gamers?
If there is one way for a game company to make a quick buck it is to release a collection of their old arcade games for a new home video game system.
Midway is the pro at rehashing old arcade game for these new systems. I applaud any company that is willing to brink back the classics for the old fans and give the new games a chance to conquer the greats. But in this case it's the same old graphics and sound with a new menu system. This disk is considered volume 1 and contains exact arcade replicas of Joust, Defender, Defender 2, Robotron 2084, Sinistar, and Bubbles with unlimited credits. I have only heard of Joust, Defender and Robotron. Maybe I played bubbles at Chuck-e-Cheese's when I was a little nipper, but the game is so mediocre, I'm not surprised I don't remember it. What really gets me, is that this game can be bought for around $30. Who's going to pay that much for so little. COME ON, PEOPLE! You can get so many other better games for that price!
So why didn't Midway add some improved graphics, better sound and more options? Because they whipped up this easy moneymaker for the Playstation a while back, ported it over to the Nintendo 64 and now the Dreamcast gets an identical copy.
If I wanted to play these games without traveling back in time to the 80's, I could do a quick search on the net, to find the exact games, or improved versions that I could play for free! Ridiculous!
Demand more! Don't let Midway make a quick buck off of your nostalgia. If you really want this game I recommend picking it up if you can find it hiding in a clearance bin somewhere, or if you get one for free with your Happy Meal. For the amount of effort that Midway did on this Collection, they should sell it for $5 at the 7-11 and still make a profit.
