The Bottom Line: Give it a try. Garmin is a leading manufacturer in GPS products, and this gives you a good amount of bang for your buck!
Okay, okay, so knowing exactly where you are can be useful, but you don't need a GPS (most of the time) to get your general location.
If you do much traveling at all, you may find this to be a very useful tool. This unit contains, among other features, a built in basemap. The basemap contains important mapping features such as cities, intestates, national and state highways, rivers, lakes, railroads, and coastlines. The eTrex Legend comes with eight megabytes of additional memory, which allows you to upload entire routes for trips into the GPS. This allows you to quickly and easily plan ahead which is the quickest and most convenient way for you to get to where you want to be.
You get a fair amount of usage out of this GPS because the average battery life is 18 hours (on 2 AA batteries). The double A batteries tend to make things even more convenient because you can stop pretty much anywhere and pick 'em up when you need them!
Don't make the mistake of thinking this is just an expensive high tech compass. If used right, you can find your way to just about anywhere in the US in a snap.
*Note: You may want to look into this for a fathers day gift. You know how men can be about asking for directions. Depending on your budget, this would make a great gift.
