Decent phone if you need its features

I bought this phone a few weeks ago because I only have one jack in my 1-bedroom apartment, only in the living room. I wanted to have a corded phone for power outages, and a cordless in my bedroom (where there is no jack). This phone fits the bill, and even comes with an answering machine and caller ID.

The pros:
Great to have a corded and cordless unit where the cordless doesn't need to be plugged into a phone jack.
Voice quality is about average to good, no complains.
Easy to set up and use (except voice prompts - see below).
I like the hold button for transferring from corded to cordless handset.

The cons:
Absolutely horrible voice prompts for set-up and answering machine. It was the same on my old GE answering machine - it's a digital voice that doesn't have all the normal intonations of human speech, so you can't tell where sentences or words end. Hard to describe, but just horrible.
The voice recorder microphone for outgoing messages is very poor quality, but incoming messages are ok.
Phone numbers on the display are hard to read due to the way they are formatted - it's almost like every number is an 8. It's ok I guess, but I get jealous when I see clearer displays on other phones.
If you view missed calls on the base, it still shows as new on the cordless display, and vice versa.
It doesn't have an actual phonebook, you can only put numbers into memory 1-9.

I haven't tried the speakerphone, so I can't comment on that. My apartment is also very small, so the cordless range is fine, but I'm not sure about a larger house. I also don't know yet whether the base keeps all the setting in case of a power outage - I sure hope so!

Overall, I'm happy with this phone because it has all the features I needed and is decent quality.

I've had this phone for a while now, and have had no problems at all. I am upgrading it to 4 stars.
