Author's Review

I should move more often if this is going to be the result of every time I move, but the latest time resulted in The GE DCVH515EF Electric Dryer along with the GE WBVH6240FWW Front Load Washer being given as a gift. It was a great gift to receive, because it meant I wouldn’t have to make any treks down to the Laundromat with rolls of quarters. This GE Electric Dryer holds a volume of 7 cubic feet of clothing, or more specifically, about twice as much laundry as the washing machine that goes along with it. What this does is provide ample space with which to shuffle the clothing around while the dryer is working, thus resulting in the clothing being more thoroughly dried each time. The dryer is a free-standing front loader, and it fits perfectly beside the washer. A nice little nuance with the dryer, is that the door opens in the opposite direction, so if you have them set up perfectly, it is even easier to transfer clothes from the washer to the dryer in one quick swoop.

As it states, the dryer runs on electricity, and with heavy use here, I would say that it is great on the electric bill. Using it doesn’t add that much of an overage to the total electric bill, and honestly I have barely noticed the increase with constant use of the dryer going on. The dryer works very quietly when in use, to the point that you barely can even hear the hum going on. One of the great things about it, is that it also has a mind of its own, meaning that it has the ability to determine if clothes need to be dried for a longer or shorter amount of time than that you have programmed it to take. The dryer is digitally run, and has various knobs, buttons, and dials that help you to set your GE appliance to the perfect setting, and thus protect your clothing while you are having it dried. It has 15 different cycles that you can dry your clothes, includes an automatic cool down feature, and also has a moisture-sensor that will tell you if the clothes need to be dried more, even without popping the front door open. That door is something else itself, resembling a port-hole, and being thick enough to prevent noise from escaping during use. If the door is open, the inside of the dryer lights up so that you can see the clothes inside, and then turns off when you close the door.

The General Electric dryer looks pretty flashy from the front, having many different ways to work the machine, and a digital out-put of the time remaining on any one of the cycles that you have chosen to use. At the top front of the machine you have a power button which digitally turns everything on, and lights up the dials/display, the start/pause button which controls the dryer use, an automatic lock button, and a start delay button that allows you to delay when the dryer starts up one of its cycles. The lock is a great asset, because if you use it, you can lock the dryer from being used until you unlock it yourself, thus making it very handy to have around children who might decide one day it is fun to dry something. The main knob is right below the power button, and this controls what type of cycle you are going to run by turning the dial to one of the modes. Each mode has a light which turns on when you select it, and then puts up an amount of time that the cycle will take on the display. The possible cycle modes available are Cottons, Mixed Loads, Easy Care, Active Wear, Delicates, Speed Dry, De-Wrinkle, Air Fluff, and Timed Dry. The timed dry allows you to adjust how much time you want to dry your clothes in 10 minute increments. It is really useful if you want to just toss something into the dryer for only about 10 minutes, and don’t want to worry about clothes being in there for too long.

With this dryer, you won’t necessarily even have to worry about your clothes being in the dryer for too long, because it has a sensor inside that you can take full advantage of. On the right front of the machine, there are a couple of monitors that tell you what the sensor dry level is set at, and what the dry temperature of the machine is set to. For the sensor level, you can pre-select that you want the clothes to end up more dry, dry, less dry, or damp when the cycle is finished. Using the “more dry” option is best for heavy or mixed fabrics, where as the “dry” level is good for most loads. Sometimes you want things to end up “less dry” because you want them in peak position to be ironed, so you would set it at that level for something like that nice pair of khaki’s. At the bottom of both the Sensor and Temp monitors, there is a button where you can adjust what each load will have. The temperature can be adjusted to Anti-Bacterial, High, Medium, Low, Extra Low, or No Heat at all. The no heat option only works on the timed dry, so if you want to use it, you are going to have to pre-set the dryer at the level you want ahead of time. Each of the cycles that you choose has a default option that can be used, or if you want to adjust anything, you can play with each of the types of dry levels and temperatures until you have the exact setting that you want. If you have a pre-set that you want to keep coming back to, the machine has a “My Cycle” button that will memorize your setting, and allow you to just press it the next time you come back to dry some clothing. This is an awesome feature for someone like me that has some clothing which I want to dry on my own type of settings.

In addition to all of the normal options of drying clothes, the dryer also has an Extend Tumble button which will minimize wrinkling, Damp Alert which will go off so you can remove some clothing that you want to hang after a short drying session, and a Signal button which allows you to play with the level of volume which beeps when a level is completed, or when the dryer has finished with the clothing. No matter what setting you decide to go with, there is always a digital read-out of how much time is left on the load. The dryer seems to work much quicker than any dryer I have used before, and I often can put a full load from the couple washer and have then dry in around 30 minutes. They do have pre-set times to make sure you are getting things 100% dry though, and when you select something like Delicates for example, the clock puts up 26 minutes. To top everything, the dryer even comes with a rack that can be installed in the center of the dryer so you can hang clothes rather than having them shuffled around while in use. This can be something that a lot of people will use for one article of clothing just to make sure it gets done quicker.

The GE DCVH515EF Electric Dryer is so easy to use, it is almost fun to have to do laundry when I am working with this dryer and GE WBVH6240FWW Front Load Washer right beside it. The digital read-out of any cycle that you work with (or what ever timed dry time increment you decide to go with) gives you specific amounts of time that remain until your clothing is dry. This means you can set your watch by it, go to watch some television or do some other work around the house, and come back at the exact time that the dryer goes off. I love the digital read-out more on the dryer than even on the washer, because you can adjust the display at any time to add more time, or take some off depending on how long you want a cycle to run. The ease of use for this model is also a great selling point, because you can walk right up to it, and do a load with only a few button pushes. This takes away any of the frustrations of doing laundry, and replaces it with something much needed from an appliance like this. I cannot say enough good things about this model, as I have not had a single problem while using it, or with clothes being damaged in use. It has performed in an exemplary fashion ever since it was installed, and it is well worth the purchase price. This is a model I can easily give a high recommendation to, and if you are looking for a new high level dryer to add to your household, this is something I really recommend looking into.
