Author's Review
We bought this dishwasher about a month ago for $499, however it also came with free delivery and installation making it a fairly good deal for this particular model.
This model has digital controls which are hidden below the counter top, leaving a clean, sleek profile, which looks rather nice in our kitchen.
There are 7 different cleaning cycles, and 3 drying cycles to choose from. A couple of the more noteworthy ones are:
Speed Clean with Aqua Surge--possibly one of the most useful features on this particular model. This cycle is only 44 minutes long and it may not work well on your pots and pans with burnt on grime, but cleans most other normally soiled dishes, just fine.
Energy Saving 1/2 Load Wash Option--this is particularly nice if you only have a few dishes to wash that will fit on the upper rack only. Does a good job of cleaning and does it fast, using minimal water and energy.
Ultimate Scrub--This cycle is 99 minutes long, but does a good job on heavily soiled pots and pans.
Overall, we're well satisfied with the way this model cleans. There is a stainless steel food disposer with self-cleaning filter that appears to work well, and a soil sensor that does add minutes on to whatever cleaning cycle selected to add extra cleaning power when needed. We put the dishes without rinsing first and even the glasses come out spotless.
Frigidaire only makes a couple of models that are available with stainless steel interiors--this model isn't one of them. All Frigidaire's top models are only available in what they call a "granite grey" interior, which they claim stains less--we haven't had it long enough to have developed an opinion on this.
The upper rack is adjustable and there are a number of other racks which can be adjusted for various uses--on the upper rack only. The tines on the lower rack are not adjustable, but sufficient for our needs.
The primary reason we bought this model was because our last dishwasher kept breaking down--and it was only about 7 years old and a top of the line Kenmore for which we had paid more than double. We don't plan on staying in this house for more than another 2 years so we didn't want to put that much into a new dishwasher--but what we really liked the best about our last dishwasher was it was dead silent--you had to put your ear against the unit to even tell it was running. As our kitchen is small and located right next to our living room, we wanted the quietest unit possible, and at 53 Db(decibles) this was the quietest unit we could find in the price range we wanted to pay (under $500). Other units in this price range ran 56-59 DB, and any thing over 60Db is noisy!
It's not quite as quiet as our last unit, which I believe was rated at 48 Db, but we didn't have to pay over $1,000 for it, and compared to other dishwashers we've had in the past, it's fairly quiet. You can hear it filling and hear the water sloshing around, but you have to be standing pretty close, and could even comfortably sit up against the unit while talking on the phone and not have a problem holding a conversation.
If you open the dishwasher right after the cycle finishes, the dishes also aren't quite as dry as they were with our last unit, but again, for the money, it's sufficient.
