BEST Space Sim Ever.

I could set out and describe missions and gameplay ect, and say this is the best game ever in the genre. But I won't just do that. I'll also say it what it doesn't have. It doesn't have the bugs of X-Wing Alliance nor its wildy irregular gameplay. It doesn't have the exaggerated cinematics of Wing Commander. This game has no flaws that can be seen by some in other games. It doesn't have mindlessly easy or hard ai on a given difficulty level. It doesn't have a boring storyline. It doesn't have a twitch factor where only 15 year olds on crack can play the game with fast enough reflexes. It's graphics or sound isn't plain or average.

You can't play a better game in the genre. There is essentially nothing wrong with this game :).

Play it then get around to playing Freespace 2 (memo to self buy the sequel or be forever cursed to missing what is almost surely a great game).
