The greatest commuter car ever!!!!

they do not make them anymore, not as plentiful as they once were
The Bottom Line:

So we needed a nice winter type commuter car that would get better gas mileage than our Bronco and Explorer.
Being a Ford Family I knew that the Escort would fit the bill.
We bought our 93 LX four door in August of 07, it had 118k miles (it now has 126k). It is the 1.9 auto with air and power steering & mirrors. We bought it because our 92 Escort wagon was a stick, and my Pregnant wife could not depress the clutch fully because of a lack of tilt steering.
This 93 was well maintained by the previous owner, and it does not suffer the rust problems that seem to plague escorts in the rocker panels, and 1/4 panels.
She drives the car about 70 miles everyday, and it suits her well. We installed a CD player, but other than basic normal oil changes and other maint it has been totally reliable.
The car sees a mix of city and highway driving, and it averages about 32mpg.
For being a Compact it has a good sized trunk, and for the bigger items it has a fold down split rear seat. It also has seating for 5 (two in the front, and 3 in the back).
We have had two adults and a car seat, and two car seats and an adult in the back. It is not the most roomy, but it was not overly cramped.
Parts for it are nice and cheap ( I know this from our 92),and the maint items are nice and easy.
I just wish they still made them!!!
