Author's Review
With a baby on the way I knew that one of my top items to buy or request was a baby bouncer, so I was thrilled when we received the Fisher Price Rainforest bouncer as a gift. Having done a lot of babysitting through the years I have seen how helpful a baby bouncer can be for the sanity of a parent.
Appearance:
The Rainforest bouncer is super colorful. Right away you notice the bright jungle pattern material that makes up the bouncer. Above the baby holder is a toy bar with a light up plastic waterfall, moving animals, and 2 toys hanging down within baby's reach.
Assembly:
The bouncer requires some assembly. The product comes with all the necessary parts, but you will need a Phillips screwdriver. Assembly was very simple. It is just a matter of sliding pieces together and screwing them in place. The included instruction manual is easy to read and follow. I had the bouncer put together in about 10 minutes.
Bouncer Features:
The bouncer comes with a button that allows you to turn on a vibration feature. This feature makes the bouncer have a light vibration to help soothe and calm baby. The bouncer also comes with fun visual stimulation and interactive toys for the baby. When turned on the toy bar has a little waterfall with blue turning lights that give the illusion of moving water. There are also little moving animal characters that move up and down, keeping baby entertained. Also included are two animals, a bird and a monkey, that hang down from the bar within baby's reach so the baby can grab them and bat them around.
You have the option of turning the bouncer to parent controlled, which means you control when the different lights and sounds work, or you can turn it to baby controlled so that when the baby interacts with a certain toy in a certain way they get a different result of sound effects, songs, or light action.
Another nice feature of the bouncer is that the toy bar is removable, which makes getting the baby in and out very easy. For safety, the bouncer comes with buckles to keep baby securely in the seat.
Batteries:
Unfortunately, the bouncer does require batteries. In order for the little lights, sounds and vibration to work you must put in 4 "D" batteries. Depending on how often you use these special features of the bouncer, you may end up going through quite a few batteries.
Appropriate Age/Weight:
The Fisher Price website says that the bouncer can be used for children up to 25 pounds, but it also says the bouncer should not be used after a child can sit upright unassisted.
Overall, I am very pleased with the Rainforest bouncer. It is a great place for baby to sit when mom's arms get too tired. The lightweight design makes it easy to move from room to room.
