Fellowes W11C... a Tough Little Shredder

I once owned a strip-cut shredder and thought everything that I disposed of through this shredder was absolutely worthless to a thief. I was pretty darn satisfied that no one could find any useful information.

Several years ago, I watched a program about identity theft and I was stunned to see how easy it was to restore strip-cut documents. That program was the reason that I purchased the Fellowes W11C Confetti-Cut Shredder.


A little about the Fellowes W11C

The shredder head (silver in color) is heavy and is approx. 13 ½ in. across, with a bladed slot of 9 in. The overall height including the 5 ½ gal. black plastic waste bin is just under 18 in. There is a slide switch to turn the unit on (auto-start sensor), off, and continuous reverse (to clean blades and clear paper jams). This unit is equipped with a safety feature that shuts the unit off, when the shredder head is lifted off the waste bin and it will not restart until it is seated properly. Unplugging the unit for emptying or when it is not being used is the best precaution.
The blades do require oiling periodically with a non-aerosol vegetable based lubricant.
The unit warranty is 1 year from date of purchase and for the cutting cylinders it is 3 yrs.




Experience and Personal Recommendation


The hardest test I put this shredder through was during my move last year. As I was packing up, I realized just how much paper I had accumulated over the years and I refused to keep anything I did not absolutely need. After sorting through the mess, I started shredding… not for a few minutes, but hours! Old greeting cards, utility bills, cancelled checks, membership cards, address labels, letters, post cards, documents and warranty information on things long gone and every credit card I had. According to the user handbook, this shredder can handle 10 to 20 passes per day at 11 sheets a pass, and the recommended running time is 5 minutes. Well, I didn’t have a lot of time to waste and kept shredding until the unit stopped automatically for a 20 minute cool-down period. This little shredder went right back to work after each cool-down and continued to perform well throughout the day.

The Fellowes W11C ate ’em up and spit 'em out! I’m glad that this unit has the automatic cool-down feature… without it, I’d be reading reviews for a new shredder. This is a tough little machine and I’m glad I bought it.

I am pleased with the performance of the Fellowes W11C Confetti-Cut Shredder and I would not hesitate to recommend this product.

The W11C is still functioning well. With another move on the horizon, this little shredder has once again, come through with flying colors!
