Author's Review
First, I got the magazine, because of I saw the "Ring II" preview on the cover, I love Noami Watts so much for her talents in "The Ring". It is a good magazine, I like lots of horror movies.
The cover is bad enough taste, that I hate the letter fonts and the wholly design. And when I get to the second page, is the index, pages by category. Like page 22, "This Old House" is a page about the film, "Amittyville Horror" a remake of the 1970's box office hit. That is another movie I want to see, it is good, isn't it? But the large font of the title of the magazine, "Fangoria" is so bad, it is tasteless. Thank God for that, I must be a horror fan.
It's entertaining and intricate. "Fangoria" is a Magazine for the horror movie buffs. It is a publication for all genre fans, from page to page. It's impossible for any fans to dislike such magazine. Not just horror movies, sometimes sci-fi and thrillers have elements of horror genres. They are scary and fearsome.
"Fangoria" illustrates it with so many gruesome photographic pictures of arms cut off and people skinned alive. In addition to many horror fans, they must love those stuffs. The vampires, zombies and some films, for that, I love the Magazine. Also it is the Celebrity interviews that draw me in. I love to find out about when, how, where, and what they do about the films they are making. Such as, "The Evil Samara who wants to slaughter her thirst for revenge. In her spirit and she keeps coming, it makes her a teen trash to begin with, then still wants to plague Rachel, even when she has a family and her son, Aidan." And so, dont I love the director Nakata. It is a line I took from it, "he embraces the mystical and pop culture aspects of them."
On the cover is the bunch of old-fashioned fonts, and insane mixed-up fonts, I hope that's a style, otherwise a good potential magazine, I don't like it because of it. Price is expensive for the color, pictures, and many in turns of the combination of films from domestic to international. And the content, even low budget and cheese-fests can be found buried within the pages. The B-movies, foreign films, and including Japanese horror films are all in there. While you turn from the beginning page to the last, all you see are the colors, even the edge of the pages are color-mixed. The colors seem to confuse the eye, and make it hard to read. I don't know the designers' intention to earn more fans or let it go with it. For sure the magazine is for the hardcore fans, but if they do a better job on the color, might attract more fans. Do you agree?
And a page contains a collection of horror books, with reviews of them. A couple pages of toys and Playstation 2 games advertisings, then getting to the end, they are a page or two of classified advertising for buff to see. It also has a backup issue list the magazines dating all the way back.
It is entirely aim for horror fans. By looking at the title, "Fangoria" is a creative word, it's not in the dictionary, it sounds like "fanatics of horror", like "fans and what a great magazine that is." Many magazines are full of sh*t, I see the previews of new movies from the "Entertainment Weekly" the critics do not talk about it's a good movie or not. Basically you can not tell. In "Fangoria", are so many contents of previews of the new release movies in theatres and DVDs. It seems some what a very cute magazine. I am a horror fan, but don't like it for the looks, but I like it for the content.
The thing about the magazine is when you touch it, the paper material is glossy and hard, different from the paperback books which are soft and dry. That's the thing you can keep it for a long time, and good for collecting.
A magazine such like that has pages of Devilish looking character, monster and advertising of art institutes, it is for the learning for the students, and understanding film, there is - an advertisement of directors and actors to do speech at the place. It is punklism, meaning, "a students who dress like punk love the magazine for its authenticity, whoever also love the makeup arts of devilish character from the films. It seems like that, you see students nowadays dress black leather and wear lipsticks and tattoo skins and permanent earrings, when I see the pictures of the devil character heads, makes me think of the punk, that is it.
It quickly grasps you in, if you like, I am a horror fan and I am not wasting my time with it to even consider reading another one. Mostly attractive about it are the new release in depth movies and the content is awesome. When I pick up this magazine, I like it and forget the other one. It is a good magazine. So, just to joke, when I wish to pick up a copy of "Fangoria" on the newstands, I tear the subscription card and mail it, and start collecting it - the novels and comics, toys, and everything else horror related.
