OK CD
Date of Review: May 13, 2008
The Bottom Line: Listen to samples of the songs and buy only the ones you like from a legal website.
Daddy Yankee is a wonderful reggaeton performer and I loved his CD Barrio Fino en Directo. I like this one too but it just was not as good as the previous one. Some of the music is great, especially the songs Impacto, Ella me levanto, Tension and Jefe. But some of the other songs were a little dull. None of the songs really made me want to dance, as his previous CD did. They were nice to listen to them in the car on the way to work but I got bored pretty quickly.
The songs have very similar rhythms , are not danceable, and do not bring anything new into the reggaeton scene. It is just one more CD among many others.
Every now and then I will play some of the songs again but it is always the same four songs (well, five because there is Spanish only version and a Spanglish version of the song Impacto – both are good). After Daddy Yankee was promoting this CD so much and talking about how good it was going to be, I was expecting something better than Barrio Fino but I do not think that this CD was as good. It features many other artists such as Hector El Father, who is another great reggaeton performer, but that was not enough to make this CD excellent.
Overall, it is an OK CD and if you have some money to spare, go ahead and buy it. Otherwise, just buy the songs that you like from legal websites.
