Author's Review
The 1997 Eagle Talon Tsi All Wheel Drive turbo-charged sports coupe is almost an exact replica of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbo before the change in the Eclipse's 2000 models.
The Chrysler Corporation, working with Mistubishi, put together this powerful yet bargain priced sports coupe. Powered by a 2.0 liter Dual Over-Head Cam (DOHC) turbo-charged engine, you'll feel 210 horses thrust you back in your seat. Some of you sports fanatics may believe that 210 ponies isn't very much power for a sports car, and to that I will tell you that this car's weight/horsepower ratio is so huge, it will produce 1/4 mile times in about 14.8 secs or better.
The handling of the Talon is absolutely astounding. The full time all-wheel-drive (AWD) makes this car stick to the road like a bug to the wall. The AWD system, which is only available on Mitsubishi's Eclipse GSX model, will also allow the driver (using manual shift) to rev up the engine to high rpm's and then dump the clutch out to receive maximum acceleration and traction! AWD is awesome!
The interior of the Talon is basic, yet not cheap, like the interiors of Pontiacs. (sorry Pontiac owners - the 2000's aren't bad) The Talon does have the leather option if you want it, but since Talons are no longer in production, you'll have to search for one that already has it. The speedometer reads up to 150 mph, but you'll only get the car up to 121 and then the car's governor will hold you at a constant speed. The car comes with bucket seats, so you'll definitely feel like you're in a sports car. If you'd like a complete list of options, I recommend www.edmunds.com.
Overall, the Eagle Talon was well liked by most of the car critics and magazines, the only reason they have decided to stop production was the Eclipse's sales out-weighed the Talon. Also, a Mistubishi engine in a American car makes for an expensive repair bill. I would still however recommend this car to those seeking a powerful sports coupe for a great price. This car is easy built on and upgraded to TREMENDOUS horsepower ratings - I used to own one - so e-mail me if you need details.
