Author's Review
My husband and I started our baby crib shopping excursion innocently enough. We had done some research and we brought our Baby Bargains book with us. Now all that was left was to pick the right style, brand, price, color, accessories.... We ended the day with a serious headache and the Jasmine crib and dresser/changer by Delta.
Why we chose this crib.
We looked at 7 stores and hundreds of cribs. We wanted the best and the safest, but we were on a budget. We also had a hard time deciding on a style that we both liked. Finally, my husband saw this crib. At first I disagreed. I wanted a darker finish. We also were not looking for a convertible crib. We have no interest in making it into a toddler bed or a full bed. But, as it turns out, this crib was the same price or better than the cribs we liked that were not convertible. We liked that it had a drop side and that, unlike most convertible cribs, this drop side was still fairly high. The final deciding factor....it looked good with the bedding we had picked out! What we like.
The crib has a nice neutral, but modern style. We plan on using this crib for all our babies and we did not yet know if our baby was a boy or a girl, so it was important to us that it be neutral.
In can convert to a toddler bed and a full bed should we decide that we want that option. Like most all beds, the pieces to convert the bed are sold separately.
The drop side seemed to be taller than a lot of other convertible beds. This could just be an aesthetic thing that made it look that way, but other beds seemed to have side pieces that swooped down much more drastically and made the front rail lower to the ground. We simply felt safer about this one.
A simply knee release is used for the drop side. It can be raised and lowered very quietly and with only one hand.
The mattress can be set at a number of different levels. At 13 months, we have the mattress on the middle spot and three is very little chance that my daughter could climb out of it. If she tries, we can drop it further.
Shows very little wear. We have used this crib nightly for 5 months and randomly before that and there are no noticeable scratches or dents anywhere.
What we don't like.
The drop side. When you raise the side, you have to be sure that it catches on both sides. On more than one occasion, we have come back to check on our daughter to find that one side had not caught and the rail was sitting at an angle. We leave the rail up now simply because we no longer need to lower it, but before that, we were just sure to watch closely to make sure that both sides were locked in place.
