Radio Shack Big-button - A basic corded phone

We heard from friends that it is safer to make important calls [bank/credit card etc.] on a corded phone rather than a cordless phone. Apparently, these cannot be intercepted like the cordless or cell phones can be. At the time, we had just a cordless phone [also Radioshack], and were looking for something basic for those secure calls we wanted to make. This seemed affordable and was small enough not to occupy too much space.

It has flash, mute and redial control buttons on the bottom of the handset.

It has a small tab covered with transparent plastic where you can write and save your own phone number

Used it for:
2 years and counting....

Features that I find useful:
-Can be used desktop or wall mounted. It comes with a smaller wire for wall mounting so you do not have a long power cord showing. We have used it both ways and it is very convenient for the kitchen.
-Very easy to install
-There is volume control- high or low
-It has pulse or tone dialing options
-You can turn the ringer off if you have another phone connected to the same line
-The cord is very flexible and goes a long way when extended- so this is very helpful if you are mounting it on a wall
-The sound quality is good and we usually just use it on the low volume setting
- The buttons for the numbers are very large and easy to see- although we do not really need large buttons, this would be very helpful for someone with vision problems or joint problems like arthritis where you cannot bend your fingers as much to press small buttons. The buttons also make a definite click or clack sound when depressed, so you know you have pressed it.
-Small, so it does not occupy much space, but large enough to be easy to use
-It works with call waiting and 3-way calling

Wish it had....
-Caller ID- I have to go to the other cordless phone to check who is calling before receiving the call
-Memory storage for numbers
-Display panel to show what number we have dialed

All in all, this is a nice easy-to-use basic phone. But I don't think it can be a stand alone phone for a home. You would certainly need another one with more features.
