Author's Review
I purchased Cyber Acoustics' "Acoustic Authority A-3640" 2.1 speaker set from Futureshop. I was shopping for a quality 2.1 speaker system that delivered decent bass for listening to MP3's through my IBM ThinkPad. After looking at several models, I noticed this particular set was on the shelf, but not on display. I noticed that it had 110W of total output, and other sets that were in the same price range had significantly less (40W-60W). I asked the sales person why there was no model on display, and he explained to me that they had just recieved this set, as it has only become avalible for sale in Canada recently (in fact, you can't find this set listed on cyber-acoustic.com in the Canada section, only in the US & Mexico section). So, for 20$ more than a 40W model from a more recognizable manufacturer I picked up this set for 99.99$CDN.
After getting this home I was eager to set it up. At first I was struck by how terrific the set looked, and was impressed with the extra long (3M) cords that were included to attach the satellite speakers to the main unit. One of my favorite features is the remote control unit (which is attached via a 3M cord as well). It's lighted a nice blue color and features seperate volume controls for the satellite speakers (25W/each) and the subwoofer unit (60W).
After spending less than five minutes plugging everything in (also included is an adapter to hook up to a DVD player, digital cable/satellite or game console) I started my favorite media player and choose a track to listen to.
I was very impressed to say the least, the subwoofer sounds terrific, the satellite speakers could perhaps use a bit more seperation between the mid-range and high-range frequencies, but for this price, I'm very happy with the quality, which can be tweeked easily using my media players built in EQ.
All in all, I would recommend this system to anyone who is looking for decent sound and sharp looks from a 2.1 speaker system that is appropriate for apartment use. It is easily moved between the computer/DVD player if you wish to do that as well.
