Product Review

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! Coffee's ready!

by   ktmcda ,   Jun 26, 2002

Pros:  Attractive, well designed, GRINDS AND THEN BREWS YOUR COFFEE!!!many nice features, very durable, YUMMY COFFEE!!!!!

Cons:  fragile "Brew Pause" mechanism can break, machine is tall, maybe too tall.

The Bottom Line:  This is THE coffee maker for lovers of fresh coffee! It does have more parts to clean but it is TOTALLY worth it.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I Love this coffee maker. I have a black one. We've never had a problem with it. Well, actually it just broke yesterday, but only a little bit,(after being used HARD for almost 3 years) and yet, I still love it.
The part the broke is the little device that allows you to pour a cup of coffee while it's being brewed without having coffee drip out when you remove the pot.

This is a coffee machine that grinds and brews (hence the name) coffee in compact style!
To use, just fill the grinder with whole coffee beans, cover, and close the top lid. Fill to desired water level (up to 10 cups) and push "On."

You will hear a (startlingly loud) RRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!! sound while it's grinding for a few seconds. Then the coffee will start to brew.

There is an automatic shut off and you can program how long the pot will stay on.

Other features include:
-Comfort Grip handle
-Cord storage
-Clock
-Temperature monitor
-1-4 cups setting
-Program setting
-reusable wire filter
-Grind off feature (handy if you want to turn on the heat w/o starting the grinder unnecessarily)
-self cleaning setting (I never used this feature)
-Special "taste keeper lid" keeps coffee fresher longer

Some people say it's hard to clean. There are more parts to clean, but it's not a big deal. You should know that of you buy this maker you'll be cleaning:
1. The carafe
2. The filter (wire mesh, you wont need disposables unless you prefer them)
3. The grinder & grinder lid
4. A piece that connects the grinder & filter.

So, yes, that's more difficult than emptying a filter. But after a week, I was used to it. In my opinion, it's designed very well and is very user friendly.

Something to consider: The size is approximately 14.5"H x 11"W x 11"D so it might be too tall in kitchens with low hanging cupboards!! I have to pull mine out from under the cabinets to fill and clean because it's so tall.

Also, it's not recommended that the parts be washed in the dishwasher. I of course ignore this warning and wash them in the diswasher frequently. The parts are fine in there, IMO.

Overall, this is a very sleek, cool looking, easy to use and well designed coffee maker. I paid 99$ for this at Sears. It makes GREAT coffee by the way. And even without the "Brew Pause" mechanism, it still is way better than any other coffee machine. If you are not into cleaning various parts on a daily basis, this is not your machine. However, I bet you'll get over it when you see and smell and taste the fruits of your labor.
