Author's Review

"Crimes and Misdemeanors" is a very deep, moving, and often funny look at the decisions we make that shape our lives.

There are two parallel stories that intertwine, and that each impart their own lessons about life. The first story concerns a well-respected married opthamologist, Judah (Martin Landau), who has an affair with a flight attendant (Anjelica Houston). When she becomes unstable and threatens to ruin him and his marriage, he is forced to protect the life he has built for himself, at any cost.

The second story concerns a documentary film maker, Cliff (Woody Allen), who feels his work is under-appreciated. His brother-in-law Lester (Alan Alda), whom Cliff despises, is a television producer who seems to get all the accolades that Cliff desires. Cliff holds fast to his principles, and is sure that one day people will appreciate his work, and realize that Lester is a hack.

There are several other story lines that all address a single issue. The issue is whether or not life is fair and whether or not people get what they deserve in life. In spite of the serious nature of this film, it is often very funny. In my opinion, this movie is a MASTERPIECE. If you haven't seen this movie, I would highly recommend that you do.
