Author's Review
I know, this was one of the first Dreamcast games to come to the states, but I never got around to playing it until this past weekend. And, I can honestly say that it was money well spent (I feel that buying it for $13 used is a damn good deal).
First, you select from one of four seperate cabbies. Each driver has their own car and their own skills. Now, you have a set amount of time (3, 5, or 10 minutes or arcade rules) to get as many passengers to their desired destinations within a set time (usually, you have about 50 seconds to get your fare to their destination before they jump out of the car).
Now, to help make the game a little more realistic, you have to get some of your fares to real businesses. Every once in a while, you will be taking a person to a KFC, or the Original Levi Store, or even a Fila shop. There is an excellent way to get a realistic feel to the game, and make some advertising money on the side.
By the way, did I happen to mention that there are no cops, stop signs, or street lights, so anything goes. Your cab is indestructable, so ramming other cars won't dammage you, but they will slow you down.
As you carry your passenger, you may hit another car. From here, a humorous little dialoge will ensue between the driver and the passenger. But, since nothing vulgar is said, no one should worry about little kids picking up some bad language.
The graphics are spectacular. They are about as realistic as you will get from the Dreamcast (the best system out there right now. To Hell with PS2!!). Everything looks perfect. There are minimal graphical glitches, but they do exist. But, you needn't worry about this ruining your gameplay. Ain't nothin' gonna ruin the perfect, solid gameplay.
To be honest, the only problem with the game is the lack of decent music. I'm sorry, but I hardly find The Offspring as decent "drive like a loon" music. But, with the cheezy music, you'll still love this game.
Overall, loyal reader, if you are looking for a game where there really are no rules and you are free do go insane behind the steering wheel, then just throw this disc into you DC, buckle up, and get ready to go CRAZY!!!
Trust me on this one. You'll thank me later.
