Author's Review
The Comics Buyer's Guide is a weekly newspaper-like magazine that contains news about the comic industry and has a bunch of advertisements. Those are the only two reasons why I would suggest buying this magazine.
The news this magazine reports covers all areas of comics, including those comics and companies that are not mainstream. This is different from Wizard which covers primarily mainstream comics. Go to this page to see my Wizard review: http://paidtosurf.epinions.com/mags-review-78FF-EB77E5E-387C0AB8-prod1. The news that CBG writes is not very in depth, however, it is enough to let people know what is going on in comics. Like I said though, I collect and read mainstream comics, so I prefer Wizard.
The major reason to buy CBG is the large amount of advertisements. There are many ads in each issue that list people and stores who are selling a wide variety of back issues. If you are looking for a particular back issue and are having trouble finding it, chances are if you pick up an issue of CBG, you will find some company that will be glad to sell you the comic. In addition, these ads have lists of comics that they are selling from all periods of comics--golden, silver, current. Some companies even list what comics they will buy from you and for what price.
In conclusion, if you are looking to stay current in comics with superficial news articles or enjoy plowing through ads, Comics Buyer's Guide is the magazine for you. I am sticking to my Wizard, thank you very much.
