Author's Review
We bought brand-new off the showroom floor a 1988 black Astro minivan.
Nothing fancy in it, just your standard v-6, then 5-seater with tinted side windows and air-conditioning.
We put 165,000 miles on it before we traded it in in 1999. Let me tell you, that van has been to the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, even the Gulf of Mexico and has NEVER stranded us. We never had to replace items like a transmission or motor. Sure we ran through 3 sets of tires, an alternator (first and only one in 1998), a set of shocks, your standard stuff, but nothing major. Rust didn't appear on it until 1998.
Being a service station's owner daughter, I can't impress enough to people that take care of your car and it will take care of you.
1. Change that oil every 3,000 miles period.
2. Flush out your radiator a minimum of every 2 years.
3. After 3 years consider getting new shocks all around.
4. When it needs new tires get them, after all what fun is it to be along side of the road with a flat?
If the situation warranted it, I would buy a brand new one again. But right now I'm reliving my childhood with my Chevy Monte Carlo. <VBG>
