This Camera is very very nice.....also, some info. on digital cameras in general.
Pros:
great macro mode, viewfinder, super-compact size, feels solid, grabs excellent images.
Cons:
Hmm.........battery life not excellent, manual doesn't mesh perfectly, some blue halos around bright objects (typical)
The Bottom Line:
Go for it. It's a good one.

Author's Review
Dear camera shopper,
After researching cameras for a while, I finally decided to go with the SD600. You should also read the review, "One Camera Fits ALL", which is written by a person who works with cameras and has spent a lot of time comparing different models.
I got this camera because it has:
* Nice screen size (I think that super big LCD screens make for short battery life)
*Viewfinder (sometimes useful in super sunny conditions, plus, grandma or grandpa may like to use the viewfinder!)
*Compact size
*The above-mentioned review, very in favor of this camera
*Everybody I talked to, including a few camera-experts/friends, seemed to think that Canon made the best products.
I got a value kit on buydig.com for around $300 (the price has dropped since 5 or 6 weeks ago) which included, among other goodies, a memory card reader/writer. Used with the camera's memory card, this is exactly like a memory stick. The information is stored right on the camera's memory card....you can store anything on there and of course still pop the card into the camera and fire away. Very cool. And the 1 Gig card is quite a lot of memory! Plenty. (A photographer friend told me to use "Format" to erase the images...he says the card will last longer this way.)
The battery life was very disappointing at first, but it seemed to improve the second charge. One charge lasts roughly 220 shots. I believe using the flash drains the battery quite quickly. Also, I turned down my LCD brightness and that probably makes the battery last longer.
I'm still getting to know the camera and still haven't used it to its full potential, but it has been very good to me so far. Rest assured I am very happy with this camera. I like being able to throw it in my pocket; it feels like carrying a slightly fat, compact wallet.
Consider the SD550 as well...it has more megapixels and probably a more rounded, ergonomically pleasing shape.
But don't just go for the camera with the most megapixels. In fact, I don't even use the maximum resolution, and the prints look just fine. I understand that having more megapixels may be useful in making enlargements. It seems to me that anything over a 5 megapixel camera is more than enough pixels for ordinary use.
I believe if you buy this camera you will be perfectly happy with its performance and features. If I were to do it all over again, I would have also considered the Olympus Stylus 600, which is perhaps a better value than the SD600.
If you are a camera shopper/purchaser, especially a beginner, and have questions about this camera or digital cameras in general, and/or how they interface with computers, e-mail me at thinklikeafishok@yahoo.com and I'd enjoy answering your questions (or at least trying or telling you a good place to look).
Nice Day, Thanks for Reading,
----Clark
