Product Review

Mediocre minivan at best

by   tonywar289 ,   Jul 14, 2008

Pros:  Engine, MPG, comfortable seats (once you get in them)

Cons:  Seating access, utility, power doors erratic

The Bottom Line:  If comfort, quiet, and some solid highway MPG are more important than ease of use and utility, this is the van for you.

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

Purchased a 1-yr old Buick Terraza CXL as a replacement for a fading Dodge Caravan and the Buick has not done much to make us forget the trusty Caravan. Awkward seating configuration, terrible access to third row and irregular electronic quibbles have undermined a generally pretty impressive drivetrain. 245 HP VVT V6 has regularly returned over 26 MPG fully laden on trips. In an attempt to make a generic, corporate GM minivan a "Buick" ride has been over-damped to point of numbness making anything other than, well, Buick-esque driving a real challenge. Bought a steep discount over new (over $12K less than sticker just one year before) and fully loaded with all options except nav, the Buick is truly a forgettable van at a budget price. If I could have a "do-over" would probably look more closely at another Dodge due to stupid seating config of Buick. Only saving grace are the options - DVD (excellent and easy to use, with game ports), leather/heated/2-place memory seats (great on cold mornings), abundance of storage cubbies and boxes, and generally classy and well-laid out dash and instruments. Don't pay book on one of these - they are and never were hot sellers - but if you are looking for lots of equipment in a quiet and comfortable van that can return excellent highway MPG at the expense of lots of convenience and utility, then GMs vans may be for you (Chevy Uplander, Saturn Relay, Pontiac Montana SV6 - are are essentially the same van).
