Untimely demise

I tried to get our (Oh) Brother 1820c IntelliFAX to go to an IA (Ink Anonymous) meeting. It was drinking way too much of the stuff and not being very productive. It had all of the problems that Brother printer/fax machines seem to have: couldn't decide if it wanted the cover open or closed, used the colored ink even though we never printed a single page in color, wouldn't print if any one of the cartridges were empty, reported that cartridges were empty when they clearly were not and so on. We named the thing Garfield because it spent half of the day laying on the counter cleaning itself. Unlike Garfield, the (Oh) Brother IntelliFAX had not 9 lives, but one miserable half-life. After about 7 months it died what I now know is the typical Brother Fax Machine death by reporting that I should unplug it because it had been called to its maker (error 41.) The best part was the operator at Brother telling me that they would be glad to help me if I would stay on the line and FAX her a copy of the receipt. Once I stopped laughing, I reminded her that I was calling to report said fax machine's untimely demise.
