We purchased the Britax Roundabout after extensive research into car seat safety and reviewing other parents' comments right here on epinions. Our daughter is a heavy weight, and by 6 months was over the 20 lb weight limit on her infant car seat. There are not many convertible car seats to choose from that are appropriate for infants over 20 lbs, can be installed rear facing, and get good safety ratings. We ordered this carseat off the internet and were a little nervous because we had never seen it in person. We were NOT disappointed!
We had the carseat installed by a safety expert (something I highly recommend), and he got the tether so tight the seat will not budge a 1/4 inch, even with my husband's full 220 lbs pushing against it. I also LOVE the buckle system. It took me a few days to get used to as it was very different from our old one, but once I got the hang of it it was a cinch to use. The side velcro pieces that hold the straps aside to get baby in and out are a great plus.
We have only had the seat for 4 months, but so far it seems very durable, and I imagine it will last a long time. The cover is washable and in between, is very easy to keep clean with just a wet sponge wipe down. The material seems to repel liquids and stains.
Another great bonus for us with this car seat is that it practically eliminated my daughter's fussiness in the car. Ever since we got this car seat, she almost never fusses. I think she was very uncomfortable in her old seat. It was not as padded or cushy, sat very low allowing her to only view the back of the seat, and the straps always appeared to be cutting into her. The Roundabout sits up higher allowing her a view out the window while also keeping the sun out of her face. In addition, I love the look of this carseat. We ordered the animal print seat cover which is very cool and "in" right now. It goes great with our car's tan interior.
Though it is one of the more expensive car seats, we think it is worth every penny. I don't think you can spend too much on your child's safety, and the fact that the seat is comfortable, stylish, and so easy to use are added bonuses.
