Author's Review
I had the good fortune of being raised by an excellent cook-My Grandmother! She prepared everything from scratch. Unfortunately, she passed away before I could ask her to write down her wonderful recipes. (I'm still trying to find a German potato pancake recipe which she learned from her Mother who was born in Germany)
I spent many years trying to find certain "perfect", old fashioned recipes such as macaroni and cheese, chicken pot pie and potato salad. Then one day I was watching the Food Channel on cable and Pam Anderson was cooking a few dishes from her book. They looked wonderful! I couldn't wait to get on Amazon.com and order two copies-one for myself and one as a gift!
The book is awesome! Well written, step by step instructions so that even a beginner could achieve perfect results the first time.
Chapters: (I've listed a few recipes from each chapter)
* Taking Stock-creating good stocks, soups
* Everyday Classics-Macaroni and Cheese, Chicken Pot Pie, Memorable Meat Loaf, Fine-Tuning Homemade Pizza and Calzones to name a few
* Special Dinners-Perfect Roast Turkey, Perfect Prime Rib, How to Select, Cook and Serve a Lobster
* On the Side, but Not Forgotten-The Cabbage Makes the Slaw, Perfect Potato Salad, Mashed Potatoes: The Best They Can Be
* Bread Winners- Daily Bread, New-Style Souther Corn Bread, Big, Beautiful Muffins, Perfect Pancakes
* Be-All and End-All Desserts-Strawberry Shortcake, Infallible Lemon Meringue Pie, Exquisite Cheesecake, A Fudgy, Chewy, Cakey Brownie
I tried several of the recipes and received many compliments!
As for giving the book as a gift, I gave it to my Sister-in-Law for her birthday in a basket along with ingredients and spices. She loved it! She bought three more to give as presents also!
