Summary of Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh

Mrs. Frisby and her family of mice lived on a farm owned by Mr. Fitzgibbon. One day, Mrs. Frisby’s youngest son, Timothy, became very ill. Mrs. Frisby decided to get medicine from their doctor, Mr. Ages. On her way, Mrs. Frisby helped a cro caught by a piece of string. The crow, named Jeremy, said he would repay Mrs. Frisby someday. When Mrs. Frisby reached Mr. Ages, he said to let Timothy rest and should always be worm. Mrs. Frisby brought the medicine back home, a cracker box half-way buried into a field. The next day Mrs. Frisby overheard Mr. Fitzgibbon talking about plowing the fields soon. Every year, near the end of winter, Mr. Fitzgibbon would plow the fields. The Frisbys move to their summer home to avoid the plow. This year the weather was cooler than usual, which would make the summer home quite cold, and Timothy was supposed to be in bed and be worm. If the mice didn’t move to their summer home soon, they will be caught in the plow. But that meant Timothy would be in the cold. Mrs. Frisby asked Jeremy for help. Jeremy took her to the wise owl. The owl told her to ask the rats of Nimh for help. The rats of Nimh were intelligent lab rats that escaped from a lab called Nimh. Mrs. Frisby asked the rats for help. They decided to move Mrs. Frisby’s winter home to a spot where Mr. Fitzgibbon didn’t plow. That way, Timothy would stay warm and the house wouldn’t be caught by the plow. Mrs. Frisby thanked them. A few days later, Mrs. Frisby was gathering food, when she heard Mr. Fitzgibbon was talking to his wife about scientists interested in the rats that lived on the farm. Mrs. Frisby knew he was talking about the rats of Nimh. She quickly informed them about this. The rats said the scientists that did experiments on them were pin-pointing their location. The rats decided to move. They devised a plan where they would try to trick the scientists into thinking they escaped into a nearby forest to be forever lost. When the scientists came, the rats’ plan went into action. In the end, two rats died and were recaptured. The rest of the rats escaped and moved to a new location. Mrs. Frisby and her family were safe from the plow and Timothy became healthy again.
