A classic worth sharing

Of all the Oke books I have read, I believe that Love Comes Softly will always remain my favorite, due to its touching telling of Clark and Marty Davis, a simple couple who deal with their trails and burdens through the grace of God.

My mother and I first read Love Comes Softly together when I was about 12-years-old, and we still (over 15 years later) laugh over the burnt biscuits and beakless rooster. As newlyweds, my husband and I read this together, along with several other Oke books. My husband was surprised that he enjoyed the series as much as he did. I am still amazed that the series, especially this book (the best in the series) still holds my attention.

Love Comes Softly starts off with two heartbroken young adults, who enter into a marriage of convenience. The novel takes you through their trials and triumphs as newlyweds who are essentially complete strangers. A toddler who has lost her mother is thrown into the mix along with a an unborn child from a former marriage.

The home life and dialogue is of poor, mostly uneducated farmers, and since my ancestors came from that same kind of background, I easily identified with these hardworking, determined folk.

I have read other "Christian Romance" novels that fell short of telling a realistic, while heart-rending love story. This book will not disappoint any reader that is looking for a true love story.
