I actually hate this stuff and I don't hate easily!
Date of Review: Feb 2, 2008
The Bottom Line: Don't waste your money. If you must wear mineral make up pick one up in the store for $10.00. L'Oreal Bare Naturale is a better product in the mineral line.
The revolutionary ''new'' make up to give you flawless airbrushed skin with great ease of use? I think not.Any reader of this review, I need to be completely honest with you. After seeing nearly 100 infomercials for this and also seeing countless showings on home shopping channels I finally decided to give it a go. I live between Morocco and Spain. Morocco has the dry summer sun and our Spanish home is slightly more humid on the Grand Canary Island. So I need something which will hold up in warm to very hot conditions. This didn't. I found that my Revlon Colorstay liquid did a much better job. I didn't have to touch up at all where I had to with the Bare Escentuals.
I had tons of little tiny pots and at least 2 brushes to lug about with me. Another thing, should you completely open the pots you will have one mess on your hands. I found that I needed to unfold a big paper clip and poke through above where several holes are located. This stopped the mess though created another problem as it took a bit of time to get enough product out into the lid.
I am an avid user of Revlon Color Stay liquid and wanted to see what these mineral make ups were like. I purchased another brand of foundation only and liked it okay. So, I was interested in ease and durability in hot weather.
I purchased two of these sets and was utterly unhappy with it. I also purchased extra items; brushes, eye colors, an extra mineral veil and an ''all you need'' kit for a broader range of use. I feel ripped off and the company does not care. I have attempted several contacts with the company via email and telephone to no avail and no refund. My concerns with this make up fell upon dead ears basically.
It took me many many coats to cover anything. The concealer (called bisque) never came close to covering even faintly dark under eye circles nor was this coverage any better once the foundation was applied over the areas. Much of it is very glittery; the shadows and all over pink for the face I looked like a snow fairy in a snow globe! I like a bit of glittery in my shadows but didn't exactly wish for my entire face to be glittered. Yes, people will say go and have a professional show you how to use it. I know a professional and do not require assistance in the use of these products. In fact she said ''you want me to put that stuff on your face? What did you buy it for? Only professionals who sell it will deal with that stuff.''
In the end, I had spent over $200.00 and gave all of the unopened packages away for Christmas 2007 and heard the same complaints coming back. People thanked me though said perhaps this wasn't for them. I had less than 6 ounces of total product and without the brushes I had paid approximately $160.00 for that amount of make up. It also comes with an expiration date as well which is not all that far away from when the product is purchased. They say it takes so little that it lasts forever. However, with a year or less expiration date I don't think it could all be used in that amount of time.
The large jars are small and the small jars you need a search party to find they are soooo small. The brushes, all of them, shed horribly and caused my face to itch like mad. The powder is extremely messy and while easy to apply they don't speak much to the amount of product and coats actually needed.
The liquid foundation I use also handled both the dry and slightly humid and hot conditions far better than Bare Minerals. My face looked like a powder driven mess out in the sun and glittered like a disco ball in mood lighting.
This also is not what it represents as far as tipping out a few granules, swirling, tapping and brushing. It requires far more of the product and multiple applications than represented or even mentioned. I have extremely good skin to begin with and would rather go without, as I often do, than use this again. People often comment on my skin without make up on and nobody said a word when I had this product on my face. Seriously folks I did not look good.
