We have been looking for a good travel computer for quite some time, as we do quite a bit overseas travel. Unfortunately having a full sized laptop was a major pain in the rear - dragging it around with the weight, the bulky padded bags, etc. The Acer Aspire One has been quite a god-send for us, as it is small enough (and lightweight enough at just 2.2lbs) to tote along as we hop around the world, and with built in wireless / LAN capabilities, we have most of the functions of a larger laptop in one compact unit!
The major selling points for this purchase was the weight (bad backs don't like heavy things to tote around all day), size or portability, and the linux program fully loaded and ready to go (almost no chance of virus issues!), with nothing else to purchase! The price was pretty fantastic too!
One other feature we also liked is that any information we save, is kept on USB thumbs or SD cards, which keeps most of our personal information off of the system. If it ever happens to get stolen, we are not as worried as one of our main laptops at home. I find this tiny laptop has lived up to it's promises and has even become my everyday laptop - much easier to enjoy a chai latte while hanging out at Starbucks and still getting things done! I tote this little laptop just about everywhere I go!
Acer also backs this product with a 1 year international travel warranty which can be a lifesaver while vacationing overseas, and can bring a bit of peace of mind to the trip as well.
I would say the only drawback is the three cell battery size, but I haven't had it become an issue as of yet. Outlets are usually easy to locate and I find that it charges quickly and will run approximately 3 hours per charge. But too - I find this an acceptable drawback compared to all of the other benefits!
The only other drawback that I can think of at the moment is the fact that it is such a new product, that there are not many accessories available for it. I did end up purchasing a portable DVD player padded sleeve which fits perfectly and helps to keep in protected while in transit. I have yet to pick up the screen protector or custom leather case also available on ebay.
Must say - can't go wrong with this little beauty - it picks up the compliments everywhere we go!
