The Bottom Line: shows you how life around 1900 in the big city.
Review: I just ran across the movie the other night on one of the old movie channels on my Direct TV.

TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN was made it 1945 from Betty Smith novel, who also wrote " JOY IN THE MORNING.' I love that book, but didn't like the movie...

The Bottom Line: Perhaps one of the ten best films ever made, this seminal family tearjerker is recommended to all but the most cynical film fans.
Review: Elia Kazan is best known for making a star of Marlon Brando in A Streetcar Named Desire and On the Waterfront, and introducing James Dean with East of Eden and Warren Beatty with Splendor in the Grass.

He made other great movies as well,...

A Wonderful Though Somewhat Different Telling Than the Book

The Bottom Line: A memorable film. Well acted with a great feel for the period. Those familiar with the book may be a little disappointed though.
Review: I really loved this film the first time I saw it and it was still just as wonderful on each consecutive viewing. The only time I found myself disappointed in the film was the first time I watched it after reading the book.
