Author's Review
I'm not the handiest person around the house, and I will avoid whenever possible using tools. These adhesive hooks are the perfect answer.
~ Product Description
3M Command Adhesive Hooks come in various sizes and styles. This one will hold up to 5 pounds, and features a large, relatively wide hook suitable for hanging towels, clothing, or a wide variety of other household items under the 5-lb. weight. It is made of heavy-duty white plastic.
The cool thing is the amazing ease of installation, since they just adhere to the wall. Plus, you can remove them if necessary with NO surface damage! This is great if you live in an apartment, like I do.
To mount the hook, first clean the surface with rubbing alcohol. Next, apply the adhesive strip (two come in the package) to the hook, then press the hook firmly for 30 seconds to the wall or surface. Wait one hour before use. How simple is that?
These hooks have an ingenious design that allows you to remove them, should you wish. The hook slides off the base so you can grab the removal tab. Slowly slide the tab straight down against the wall, stretching the strip until the mounting base comes off. The package includes two adhesive strips, so you have an extra if you want to move the hook.
Note that you should not use these on delicate or paper wallpaper, and they may not adhere well to some vinyl wallpapers.
~ My Experience
I bought this hook to use as a towel hook on the back of my bathroom door. I loved the idea of simply sticking it on the door - no hammers and nails, no holes in the wood. But would it be strong enough and not fall off?
Mounting the hook was a piece of cake. The door is a finished wood, and I didn't use alcohol on it before mounting like the instructions said. I just hoped for the best. The white hook looked nice - nothing special really, but just a plain white plastic hook.
After several hours I put a large, damp bath towel on the hook and it did its job well. I've been using that hook a lot, nearly every day, and it's strong and sturdy, hasn't budged, holds the towel, and I couldn't ask for more.
I haven't had a need to try and remove the hook, but it's nice to know I can do so if necessary.
I have also used another style of 3M Command Adhesive Hooks for hanging kitchen tools, and they work perfectly.
~ Final Thoughts
3M Command Adhesive Hooks are an excellent choice if you don't want to deal with hammers and nails, screws, or worry about putting holes in the mounting surface. They are strong and sturdy, and hold the stated weight. AND, you can remove the hooks with no surface damage if you want to.
