Animal Rights by Moby Music

Animal Rights by Moby

Consumer Rating: Animal Rights by Moby Reviews and Ratings - Rating 4/5   See 8 reviews  | Write a review
Information: Product details
Price Range: $3.00 - $7.99 at 4 stores
The two guitar-based, pseudo-hardcore punk songs on EVERYTHING IS WRONG whetted Moby's appetite for destruction enough to yield ANIMAL RIGHTS, an album that is chock-full of guitars. Although ANIMAL RIGHTS is book-ended by two melancholy acoustic guitar and violin duets ("Now I Let it Go" and "Love Song for My Mother"), the rest of the record contains the kind of raucous and loud music Moby made with the obscure punk band the Vatican Commandos. Fans of Moby's ambient work might not find this record as appealing as those who favor Moby's aggressive side. However, it might be hard for anyone to resist the hard soloing on songs like the Prince-meets-Minor Threat thrash-fest "Come on Baby" or the slam-fests that are "Someone to Love," "Heavy Flow," and "You." "Soft" and "Say it's All Mine" bring the pace down for a few moments to allow those slam-dancing in their bedrooms to rest for a moment. "Face it" could almost pass for a Black Sabbath cover. The excellent "That's When I Reach for My Revolver" is a Miss...

This is Moby. No really, I swear it is!

Pros: Cool loud songs and beautiful instrumentals
Cons: Some songs sound a bit too unpolished at times.
The Bottom Line: To hear a different side of Moby, check out Animal Rights.

Review: In the summer of 1997, I joined three friends for the Riverside 104 Fest, an all-day show sponsored by a Connecticut radio station. Riverside was what is now known as Six Flags in Agawam, MA. The show was great, featuring Our Lady Peace, Better Than...

Moby Goes Punk Rock

Pros: Great upbeat, guitar-driven songs to rock out to.
Cons: A few too many slow, melancholy songs.
The Bottom Line: This album contains many upbeat, guitar-driven songs that are great for rocking out.
This reviewer recommends this product.
Review: If you're still angry over a recent break-up, this is a good album for you.

Animal Rights is a big departure from other Moby releases, such as Play and Songs. In many of the songs, Moby plays an electric guitar instead of a...

What Happens When You Dump Moby

by  brian_lettsin ,  Feb 4, 2005
13 out of 13 people found this review helpful.
Pros: A bitter, impassioned, at times incredible record of heartache, performed and viscerally and excitingly
Cons: Moby's screaming vocals are very prevalent throughout, which might alienate some
The Bottom Line: I have never came across an album by a solo artist more brazen, bitter, angry and impassioned than this. An act of self-destructive madness, but an unforgettable one.
This reviewer recommends this product.
Review: After picking up Moby's 1999's masterpiece, Play, in which he managed to fuse gospel, rap and rock with dance music successfully, I was rather shocked when I put this seething album into my CD player. This is probably the only album to...
