Increased shipping fees after sale has been concluded and confirmation of price was sent

They increased shipping costs from $19.50 to $35.99 after I bought an item online.  They even sent a confirmation e-mail in which the $19.50 was listed but then came back to me saying that that price was an estimated price.  Nowhere in the confirmation mail was it mentioned that that was an estimated price. Stupid thing was that the item was only $33 and now shipping and handling turned out to be $35. Crazy...

My reaction to their increase:
This is absurd!  Check the attached e-mail.  Your company provided me a quote of $53.53 in total before for handling and shipping to Canada.  Now that we have to go through paypall you suddenly increase the fee with $15?  I do not accept this, please send me a revised invoice in accordance with the earlier fee.

Answer:
The website just estimates and it is not an exact cost. The exact cost to ship to you is 35.99. Please advise on how you want to process. Thanks.
My reply:
The attached confirmation e-mail does not mention that any wording that the invoice is based on estimated fees.  It does state that the total amount includes shipping and handling to Canada.  There was no indication to me that this price would be increased based on the confirmation order.  If there would have been a price increase, that would have been the time to mention it.  I am already lenient by willing to cooperate with paying through paypall (a requirement which was also not mentioned at the time I was doing the purchase).  Any increases in handling and shipping are for your company’s expense, not mine.
Answer:
Do you happen to have a shipping account available to use? If not then there is no way I can change the freight back to what you were quoted on the website. Please advise. Thanks.

My reply:
The e-mail attached is exactly what was quoted on the website.  Just in case you cannot open the attachment, I have copied and pasted the e-mail below.  That one should have sufficient information for you to change the invoice to the earlier price.  It should be the same as what you have in your system.

Answer:
I cannot change the cost and as I said earlier the website is an estimate and is not always exactly correct. I have cancelled the order for you since you cannot pay the shipping at the revised rate. Thank you and sorry about all the confusion.
My reply:
Of course I can pay for the additional $15, but thank you for cancelling the order.  I would rather do business with companies who stick with an agreement and provide better client services anyway.  The $15 is not worth it to spend more time on it than I already have but I will remember this with my other purchases.  If this is how your company does business, I wish you lots of luck with the recession..
Conclusion: after this experience I will not think of buying again with this company. Be advised!
