I have heard ALOT of praise for the Select Comfort Bed. While I realise this is meant for online purchases, we didn't buy online, instead we went to a Select Comfort Store, and hopefully others will be appreciative of a review regardless of the method of how the bed was purchased (side note to say it seems rather juvenile to mark a review as "not helpful" simply b/c of the method of purchase.)
At the time we were bed shopping, the mattress we owned was older than 20 years, so we KNEW we needed to get another mattress. What initially drew us to the Select Comfort brand was that each side could be adjusted, secondly was that at the time the Select Comfort store was having a sale, so we figured it would be worth it to spend and invest our money for a good night's sleep, as well as numerous endorsements from people we know, as well as taking into consideration how so many celebrities have endorsed this bed, as well as the independent research that has been done w/ Select Comfort...so we were really prepared in regard to knowing what we wanted, and why we wanted the product.
We went to the store on 11 February and checked out the various models, finally settling on the Sleep Number 3000 bed. We also used the stores "90 days same as cash w/ no interest if paid in full by the 90 days" program. So we ordered the bed, and we were told to expect delivery in about 10 days. We were also told that a tracking number would be emailed to us...which never happened. So finally after waiting, I called the company to find out that the pump to the bed we ordered had been re-called, but that they would upgrade us to the digital remote - a $200 value, sounds fine to me. Well the following day, I realise that the company has cancelled our old order, and we now have a new order - which meant a delay in shipping, so on 28 February the bed still had not been shipped, and I called once again, this time, the company also tossed in two free pillows for us, as well as expedite the bed order (which was now the 2nd time I had been told the same thing). Finally on 3 March I look up our order online, and see that it's been shipped and it's in the city out on a truck for delivery...problem...when the company cancelled our first order, they forgot to put our apt number on the new order, so that meant that when the bed was out for shipment that we wouldn't get it, until after the delivery company made an attempt to deliver it. Needless to say that on 4 March we FINALLY got the bed we ordered, but we didn't put it together until 5 March. I was able to put it together w/o any problems, and didn't even have to use the directions -it was that simple.
Well fastforward and it's now 14 March and I'm not sure if we'll be keeping this bed, however I think our biggest mistake was simply that we threw out the boxes the bed came in...anyways the main reason we've not committed to the bed, is simply that the construction of the dual air chamber seems to be faulty. My husband is a side sleeper, and he's not use to the middle foam piece that runs down the middle of the bed, that and not to mention that depending on his sleep setting and my sleep setting, I often find myself "rolling" down into his side, and it's not pleasant.
***Update*** as of 17 March, we've had our bed for only 12 days, and the mattress now sinks in the middle...it's similar to a shallow "V" - the company is sending us two foam stabilizers - kind of interesting the company has a statement that says "...the bed will be just as comfortable 20 years from now as the first night you sleep on it."
Thinking there was something more that was causing the middle of the bed to sink, I deflated the inner air chamber, removed the bed off the foundation, and removed the foundation coverlet, which exposed the foundation. The foundation as well as the foundation legs are made up of "extra strong, high-density polymer" and "won't warp, shrink, or break down" and "when the legs are attached to the foundation...[it has] been tested to support over 1000 pounds" (courtesy www.selectcomfort.com) -which needless to say my weight and my husband's weight combined together wouldn't even equal 550 pounds- anyways the foundation pieces interlock to create the bed foundation. What I discovered was that the interlocking pieces that run the width of the bed started to bow in the middle- and not just 1 section was bowed, but 4 of the sections were bowed to the point where it looked like someone had taken a sledge hammer to the sections - in all honesty I'm surprised that the bed didn't come crashing down!

Don't believe me...feel free to look at the three pics I took of the support sections - of course one is just a comparison between a defective beam and a beam that is not defective, and then the other pics are of the defective support sections http://s36.photobucket.com/albums/e44/newlywedws/Select%20Comfort/

After having called Select Comfort once more, they are sending out a new foundation base - minus the coverlet and the 4 foundation panels, and they'll include return shipment for the old components that are damaged. I really want to say that I'm happy w/ Select Comfort, but so far it's been one problem after another...I just want the bed to stand up to the "hype". Hopefully after the new pieces are delivered I can get the true experience of being a well rested, happy Select Comfort bed owner
