Let me preface this by saying that I have two small children, and prefer to do most of my shopping online rather than drag them from store to store. I have had wonderful experiences shopping at stores from Disney Direct, to Coldwater Creek, to Macys, to Gymboree, to LL Bean, to MANY others.

I had been looking for a size 7 raincoat for my daughter and found a very cute and inexpensive Strawberry Shortcake raincoat on the Boscov's site. I also found some rain boots for my two year old daughter. In order to save on shipping, I shared the site with several friends and we combined our raincoat orders into one order. I placed the order while a sale was going on, and received a further discounted price. I was ecstatic.

Not for long. I had never shopped online at Boscov's before, nor in one of their stores. I won't shop online there again. They don't have any stores near where I live.

My friends' items arrived promptly(thank goodness) but several days after I placed the order, I received an email saying my two items--the raincoat and the boots--were not available in the sizes I had ordered, and my portion of the order was cancelled. I called customer service, because I decided I could order a size bigger raincoat, and a size smaller boots. Customer service, if you could call it that, was minimally polite. They told me, after I pressed them, that if I reordered the items, they would waive shipping costs, but I would have to pay full price for the items (not the sale prices I'd received the week before) because the items were not on sale any longer. I was not pleased, and told them so. They said, then, that they could offer me the sale prices, but I would have to pay for shipping AGAIN. (My friends and I had gone in together to save on shipping, then they ended up having to pay the full cost since I ended up with nothing in the order.) I was asking for nothing new--only what I had ordered previously, in a size they had in stock, at a price that I would have received in my original order. Obviously, the company did not care about trying to satisfy my original order, or keep a new customer. The agent offered to let me talk to her manager--she transferred me, and I sat on hold for 10 minutes. I finally hung up. After that, I emailed the company at two different addresses, hoping I would reach someone with some real sense of customer service. The one response I received was this:

"Thanks for shopping at Boscov's online. We apologize for the inconvenience
this may have caused you. We understand that you are upset with this order,
but all we can offer is the free shipping of the merchandise or a price
adjustment not both. If you have further questions or concerns please
contact a Shopper Service Representative at 1-800-284-8155, 9am till 8pm EST
Monday through Saturday.

I was infuriated--it seems to me that if the company couldn't keep its web site up to date with current stock and cancelled my order, they should be more than happy to offer me a different size at the price I would have paid, and without shipping costs. On their site, they state "Your satisfaction is always important to us."

NOT TRUE.
