Like others, I too was caught in a quasi-bait and switch with Academic Superstore. As requested, I submitted my student eligibility information to the store. I placed my order later and mentioned my information was on file. Just as the website suggested I do.
I placed an order for Corel Painter X with an instructional DVD and a bonus $20 gift card to Blockbuster Video. To purchase the bundle pack with the gift card I had to spend an additional $5 for the software.
A couple of days later I received an email stating that I needed to be a student to purchase the bundle. I again mentioned that my information was on file. I submitted it again, however. I heard nothing back for a few days so I called the 800 number. Spoke to a nice gentleman (Deon) who sped up the process of getting my eligibility approved. I received an email that afternoon stating that my bundle pack was shipped.
FOUR days later I get an email telling me that the gift card was no longer available. Four days AFTER the bundle was shipped; four days after I was notified that my complete order was on its way. At first the customer service woman did not even offer to deduct the additional cost for the added giftcard. She stated that the gift cards were available on the day that I placed my order but they were not available the day the order was shipped.
The prices are comparable to other stores with student discounts. I suggest shopping around for a store that has more integrity.
